Drive Safe PSA Video

It is also a requirement to do a video for the PSA. Since I’ve did the logo in 3D Max 7 and all the elements that I think are suitable were inside the logo, I decided why not I just use back all the elements in the 3D logo, use the 3D files back, modify it a little and animate it to make the video? So I ended up doing my video using all the 3D elements from the logo, animated it a little. So, basically my PSA video is a 3D animation video…I just did it according to my capability since I learnt 3D Max during my degree & enhanced back the knowledge in MIT class…it just a simple 3D video animation & not so perfect at all…

Since the road is the most important source for the DS logo, I created back a road in 3D Max. I used plane to create the pavement & box as for the white “dot-dot” divider in the middle of the road. Then I bend some segments using the bend tool. For the camera, I followed tutorials from YouTube. The road’s camera will be moving along the road. I created a path according to the road’s shape. Then, I used target camera and in the motion panel, I select parameters>pick target(the created path)

Since it shows that as we are driving, I created a steering to show that we are driving. For the steering, I trace it using a picture as for the viewport background. I traced it by using lines (for the middle part), bevel it and torus knot>circle (for the circle steering holder). As for the upper part of the steering holder, I used line, bevel it and put a texture. Then I animate it statically, change the degree-level of the steering to left and right as to show that as someone is driving.

As for the seat-belt, I also traced from a picture using lines for the buckle and bevel it. For the belt, I just used plane. I animate the seat-belt as someone is buckling it up together by create movements along the X-axis, move both together until it together as one.
For the helmet, I created it using sphere and boolean it using another smaller sphere to create space inside the helmet. Then I used back the seat-belt as for the helmet’s buckle. To animate the buckle to be tucked in, I created a circle line as for the path, use patch deform>pick path(the circle)>change the percent (to make it moving align with the circle) by X-axis.
As the for the meter indicator, I just used box for all the shapes, shape it into rectangular box. I organized all the small boxes on the major box and bend it together. The for the yellow pointer, I again used patch deform method to animate it moving up and down.

The traffic lights I just uses spheres for the lights, box for the boxes. I played with the light, to fade in and fade out each of the light of the traffic lights.

As for the ending scene, I just use text, DRIVE SAFE, animate it and play the effects by using the shatter effects in After Effects CS4.  I learnt the method from several YouTube tutorials about 3D Text in After Effects in CS4.
